Experience
A lot of people wonder why anyone bothers to learn Latin anymore. I've not only learned it, but taught it for four years while I was a graduate student at the University of Florida. So much of our history from Virgil's Aeneid to the first copies of the Magna Carta were written in Latin. The language is also the foundation for most of Western Europe's modern tongues, including English. For my students who aren't studying Latin, I find that learning the root of many English words and parts of speech helps them gain a deeper understanding of how the language they use everyday works. As a student, I learned quickly, and taught friends informally, but now that I have had experience as a professional teacher, I find that I have learned how to most successfully communicate knowledge to my students in a way that they will retain it. In addition to Latin and other English subjects, I'm a great help to students studying for their SAT and AP test. You can't gain an understanding of Latin after all without gaining an understanding of History and English. I have an affinity for teaching language because successfully mastering our use of language is valuable to any student's career path.In my spare time, I enjoy reading, languages, literature, art history, and singing.
